Holy Grail: Arctic Bay Regina Parka

Hey dolls, I hope you are all doing well! I don’t know about you, but where I live, the weather has been quite deadly these days. I have been wearing the same winter jacket/parka from Aritzia for about 4 years, and both my parents and I agreed that it’s time to get a new parka. At first, I was debating between the mainstream brands, you know, the usual ones like Canada Goose, Mackage, Moose and whatnot. However, there wasn’t any style that really appealed to me. And then I recalled that there was this jacket from a brand I wasn’t really aware of, which I tried on during a trip to Toronto’s Premium Outlet. That specific parka really stood out to me cuz it was warm, and quite stylish. However, for the life of me, I couldn’t remember the brand. All I remembered was that it is based in Canada, and suitable even for people living in New Brunswick (in case you didn’t know, I heard their temperate is -60 C today). After some trials and errors on Google, the brand finally came to me – Arctic Bay!

Before I dive into my experience about purchasing this parka, and trust me, there’s an entire story of it, I would like to give my HONEST opinion on this parka. The one I picked out is Regina Grey. First, let’s talk about the style. I am so in love! The grey is a wearable color but it stands out amongst all the black parkas. The leather paneling along the center and cuffs adds a unique touch. The leather belt is on of my favorite parts. My number criteria for a well-designed parka is how cinched the waistline is. Usually, parkas have an elastic band along the waistline, that you can adjust to your likings to a certain degree. However, I have somewhat of an addiction to extremely tiny waistline, that’s why I love this self-adjustable belt so much. I can cinch it back however I want!

The fur hood is another stellar focal point, it hugs around your face closely, so it’s extremely comfortable. And there’s velour lining along the collar, which once again, rests really comfortably against your face.

Moving on to functionality, I personally think this jacket is extremely well-made and practical. It has two layers of zippers, one short zipper inside, and another longer one on the exterior. Although it can be a hazard when you’re in a hurry, the double layer really ensures that your body is completely covered and cozy. The parka hits around my knee (I have XS), keep in mind, I’m quite petite (5”5) so if you’re taller, depending on the size you get, it will vary. Since the length is right around your knee, it  can be difficult if you tend to take really large steps, but it’s not really a problem for me. The tightness once again ensures your knees/thigh area are covered. Overall, this jacket is extremely warm. Usually when I am waiting for the bus, I would be shivering in my Aritzia jacket, but with Arctic Bay Regina, I feel like I am wrapped around in a huge blanket, a stylish one if there’s such a thing :)

So, any criticism? Maybe, there’s a couple of minor design I would prefer altered. First of all, the cuff area. You have your usual knit around the wrist, and there’re thumb holes seamed with leather paneling. Although I am usually excited about thumb holes, for a winter parker, I rather have my wrists completely covered. Plus, my arms are somewhat longer than proportionately normal, when I put my thumbs through the holes, the sleeves become a bit too tight. I would also love to have that velour lining along the wrist area, that would be amazing! Another minor problem is the pocket. They’re really quite small, which is the only thing I would say that my old parka is better than this one. The pockets barely fit my hands in there, but I supposed that’s enough. Haha

Overall, I am very satisfied with this jacket. Now onto my experience.  So I was just browsing their facebook page, and left a comment regarding a specific style. The customer service rep started msging me and assisting me. After a bit of negotiation, I got a huge discount which I am extremely happy with. I ordered the jacket on Saturday, the lady who assisted me hand delivered it to my house the next day. I got home after my dad received the package, and he forgot to check the sizing. (typical daddy problem) So I didn’t receive the right size. Which was fine, I just messaged her and told her I wasn’t given the right size. What happened next absolutely astonished me. She contacted her management and came back to my place within the next hour with the right size! How amazing is that? The lady that helped me is called Yulia, who is absolutely stunning by the way! When I told her about my blog, she was so sweet and supportive, I even received a hand-written note from her wishing me luck about my blog. I am left speechless with this amazing customer service experience. I started telling all my friends about this company, needlessly to say, they were very pleasantly surprised as well. I am also picking Arctic Bay as the company that I will work on designing a marketing plan for my marketing course. Cannot wait to start knowing about this company more. I seriously believe this company has so much potential to grow and can totally see it surpass the other major brands within the next 5, 10 years!

Stay Chic,

Review: Cetaphil DermaControl and Giveaway!

Hey dolls! I hope you are all doing well :) I know it’s been a long time since my last post. I’ve been going through this phase in life where I need to figure out what I want to do in terms of career, and I have been meaning to revamp my blog for quite a while. So that’s why I have been neglecting this lovely space. I am hoping to completely redesign my blog in the coming month and have a clear focus and direction on what I want to write about in the near future. Meanwhile, please be patient with me and check out my instagram page @ranmakeup for makeup looks, if you’d like to of course. To make up for my absence, I have a review post for you, and the best part is I have a giveaway! I know, this is my first ever giveaway, and I really hope you guys would enjoy this.

So a while back, I was fortunate enough to receive the cleanser and moisturizer from the new Cetaphil DermaConrol line. This new product line is designed specifically for people with acne-prone, oily, or combination skin. While I don’t exactly have oily skin, especially not now due to the extremely harsh winter here in Toronto, my skin is definitely prone to breakout. Just a brief overview of what my skin is like: for the most part, it’s pretty normal as long as I properly moisturize it and avoid washing my face with hot water. However, my pores get clogged very easily and I usually have those bumps on my forehead (sorry for the TMI, I know, totally gross). Anyhow, so I have tested out the two products in conjunction for a month or so, to make sure that I can give a pretty comprehensive review on the products.
Let’s start with the cleanser – oil control foam wash. This cleanser comes in the foam format, so when you pump it, the foam would come out instead of your usual gel or liquid cleanser. I really like that because my usual cleanser that I am absolutely addicted to, is your conventional foam cleanser that you would have to rub/massage between your palms to create the foam. So this cleanser is definitely more convenient. I somewhat enjoy the scent of it, it’s quite clean and has your typical soapy smell. However, personally, it’s a bit too drying for my skin. My skin feels very tight right after, not in a good, squeaky-clean way. I have to follow up with the moisturizer soon after, and still, it’s not moisturizing enough for me.
Speaking of the moisturizer, I have very mixed feelings about it as well. It’s a day-time moisturizer, so it has SPF 30, which I do appreciate. However, with that, it also comes with the nasty sunscreen smell, unfortunately, I really can’t stand it. The cream is white, although it’s not thick, it’s very difficult to rub it in and get absorbed by the skin. For me, one pump is almost too much, and it leaves a white cast on my skin. Although usually the white cast would disappear after a while, the time it takes to rub it into my skin is quite frustrating, especially that I am always short on time in the morning.
As you can see, although I really appreciate the fact that I got to try out those products, and don’t get me wrong, I usually quite enjoy Cetaphil’s other products (e.g. the famous unscented cleanser), this product line isn’t for me. I didn’t see any significant improvement in terms of breakout, either. However, that doesn’t mean those products aren’t good at all. Perhaps if you have very oily skin, and enjoy skincare products with simple ingredients, you could still give it a go.
