2014 March Estee Lauder/MAC Warehouse Sale Haul

Hey my lovelies,
I hope you are all having a fantabulous day. Today, I would like to share with you what I picked up at last week’s Estee Lauder/MAC warehouse sale. I hope you enjoy!

It was overall a wonderful warehouse sale despite the fact that we waited over an hour to get in and it was absolutely packed! There were 3 rooms in total, full of all sorts of skincare, makeup as well as perfumes owned by Estee Lauder.

I was absolutely stoked that I found the DKNY be delicious there, considering it’s such a famous product, I don’t quite understand the point of putting it on sale here. Mind you, I’ve checked all the expiry dates of the products I bought, all of them are quite recently produced. This 50 ml perfume and the lotion was only $40! I was gifted this perfume for my 16th birthday and I wore it all throughout that year. I am really excited to wear this stunner again and see what sort of memory this scent can provoke.

There’s nothing better than seeing a prestigious luxury product on sale for such an affordable price. This Tom Form stick foundation was the perfect example. I am by no means trying to get into stick foundation, I think they’re quite old school, and is definitely not the easiest to work with. However, I’ve seen so many people using a dark foundation stick as their contour and I think it’s brilliant. This foundation stick is in the color caramel which is quite a few shades darker than my skin. This was again only $15. I know, unbelievable!

So at the sales, they have quite a few desks with samples of their products on it, you would take down the numbers and get in line. Many of them are sold out instantly, which I was quite upset. Anyways, this Clinique mineral powder seemed quite interesting, it reminded me of the Banana powder by Ben Nye. I’ve already tried it, can’t say it’s as highlighting as the banana powder, but it’s extremely natural on the skin and perfect if you just want a quick pick-me-up. $15, once again.

I also scored this mineralize skinfinish by MAC called lightscapade. I’ve heard many good things about it, and it’s more cool tone than soft and gentle, which is actually what I prefer. Golden toned highlighters look quite fake on my complexion. This was again, yep you guessed it, $15.

I’ve heard so many bad things about makeup remover wipes, which are what I used to remove face makeup. I decided to give cleansing oil a go. I picked up this one by Origins and the MAC cleanse off oil tranquil. Both were $18.

This amazing set full of Clinique products was only $45. Obviously, I had to get it.

I think the key point to score what you want in a warehouse sale is to read loads of other people’s hauls to see what’s there and what fits your taste. This was exactly what I did, and I am quite proud to say I was very efficient, and did not go above my budget. I saw this Origins mask at other people’s hauls and I was excited to try this out. I’ve always been interested in Origins products, so I can’t wait to see if this softens and gives lots of moistures to the skin like it promised. This was only $15.

Last but not least, there’s a desk for charity bad which is only $5. Remember, you have to pay in cash. This year around, they had all their holiday LE products: feline eye khol, private party and flair for finery cremesheen lip glass. All for only $5 and it’s for a good cause!
Overall, I would say this was an absolutely fantastic warehouse sale if you are not claustrophobic and are willing to wait in line. Comment down below to let me know what’s your favorite product that I picked up. Until next time,

New Skin Care Obsession: Vasseur Beauty Eye Cream

Hi lovelies, so sorry I’ve been absent for so long. Recently, for some reasons, I haven’t been able to find the motivation to write about anything. For the next month or so, I will be gone again since it will be the finals season. But hopefully, I will be back with greater contents and higher quality photos for you beauties to enjoy.

Enough rambling, today, I would like to talk about one skin care product – eye cream. It is not something that everyone incorporates into her skincare routine but I remember my cousin once told me: every girl should start wearing eye cream once she turns 18. Well, now that I’m officially legal (unfortunately not for the drink yet), I was on the hunt for a basic eye cream that moisturizes my eye area. I obviously didn’t want anything anti-aging, just something simple. One day I was randomly watching beauty videos on YouTube (like most days :P), I stumbled upon this beauty – VasseurBeauty. I was so surprised that she only has 1201 subscribers, she is beyond gorgeous and her videos are extremely informative. Go check her out and send her some love, girls HERE Anyways, so I was lucky enough to win an eye cream from her company and here’s my thoughts on my first eye cream.

Just a bit of background story on her company – VasseurBeauty. Her mom has been in the cosmetics industry for over 30 years and due to her frustration of unable to find natural skincare products that actually work, she launched her own skincare line. The eye cream that I got is just called the “eye cream”, they also have serums for more mature skin. This eye cream comes in a small bottle with a pump, very hygienic unlike many other eye creams in the market that come in jars. The main ingredients in this eye cream are vitamin A, C & E, plant stem cells, aloe vera and hyaluronic acid. It has a light pink tint which I enjoy, although it is not a makeup product, the light pink tint instantly brightens up my under eye area.  The eye cream itself is very emollient and gentle near the eye area. I personally have very sensitive skin, especially around my eye areas. The first time I tried this product, it was a bit uncomfortable, not burning or anything like that, but I experienced a bit of tingly feelings. However, that feelings soon went away and my skin has fully adapted to this product. Since I don’t have any fine lines yet, I can’t really tell if this helps with that, but prevention is the key. Overall, I really enjoy this eye cream for its simplicity and miniaturization property. Would I be repurchasing this once I run out? Maybe, however, since I live in Canada, I don’t know if they ship their products here and I am always interested in trying out different skincare products, I might try out other things first. Anyhow, this is a wonderful eye cream and I would totally recommend it!

Let me know what are some of your skin care must haves?

Makeup Tutorial: Arabic inspired purple haze look

Hi dolls, hope you are all having a wonderful day! Today, I have another makeup tutorial. I was inspired by Maya mia on YouTube to create this Arabic makeup look. It is a lot easier than it looks like, let’s get started!

I’ve already done my base makeup as well as my base. I used Makeup Forever HD foundation, OCC concealer and a brow eye shadow to fill in my eyebrows.

Step 1: Prime your eyelids with a shadow primer to prevent the shadow from creasing. I used Urban Decay shadow primer potion in Eden.

Step 2: For any kind of smokey look, I always like to apply a medium brown shadow in my crease. I used Urban Decay naked from the original naked palette.

Step 3: Using a small pencil brush, I layered a medium purple shadow on my outer v. I also smoked this color along my lower lash line. I used a purple shadow by Annabelle. (It’s discontinued unfortunately, but any medium purple shadow is fine)

Step 4: Using a small pencil brush again, apply black eye shadow carefully on top of the purple and smoke it out. Depending on the shape of your eyes, blend it out in the way that complements your eye shapes the best. I also applied this closer to my lower lashline. Here, I used panther by Wet n Wild.

Step 5: Apply eyeliner on top of your lash line. I applied it in a cat-eye shape and here I used the liquid liner by Physician’s Formula. Also, I applied black pencil liner in my waterline. The most important thing about this step is to apply eyeliner in your inner eye corner in a triangle shape.

Step 6: Apply a gold eyeshadow on your inner third of the eyelids. I used sidecar from the original naked palette. Apply mascara and false lashes. And voila, you’re done!

I hope you enjoy this tutorial and if you ever try this look out, tweet me at @yolennie1 or hashtag #lavenderfedora on Instagram. Have a lovely day!

Tasted and Loved: Mabu Station

I don’t know about you guys, but I am a total dessert freak. I would choose dessert over regular meals any time of the day. One of my favorite spot to visit in Toronto, especially North York area is definitely the Mabu Station. Ever since I discovered it, I visit there pretty much every month and I am definitely obsessed.
This is a Taiwanese style dessert place. It’s quite a small store like most of the stores located near Yonge and Finch area. This can be quite problematic from time to time, I’ve seen many people coming into the store and have to wait in lines. Fortunately, this never happened to my friends and me. Either way, the food you can get from here is definitely worth the wait. Some of my favorites are the Belgian waffles, House-special toast and their longan and red bean milk tea.

Let’s start with the waffle, shall we? My favorite meal of the day is breakfast, hands down. So of course, the waffle seems the most attractive to me. Unlike your conventional waffles, this one is very chewy in the centre. They come in three flavours – mixed fruit, chocolate and macha red bean. I absolutely love anything red bean and green tea, so of course, the macha one is my absolute fave. The portion of this dessert is huge, if you are coming here after dinner of lunch, and you want something light and sweet, this can serve up to 3 or even 4 people, in my opinion. But like I said, I would choose dessert over meals any time, so I often come here with empty stomach and the entire waffle is mine. Haha :D The price for this is $9 I believe and for the size that you get, I think it’s fair.

Sticking with the breakfast theme, the house-special toast from Mabu Station is absolutely delicious as well. The chocolate caramel one is served with walnut ice-cream, bananas with chocolate sauce drizzled over them, a chocolate macaroon, two egg rolls and two oreos. It is absolutely divine. The crispy toast is soaked with ice cream and chocolate sauce, it’s a perfect blend between crispy and creamy. The only downside is that near the bottom as well as the walls of the toast, there isn’t enough ice-cream so it can be quite dry. But over all, it’s amazing! $13 for this that can be shared with many friends, totally worth it!

The store also offers many drink option, I’ve tried the Oreo milk tea, Longan red bean milk tea and egg pudding milk tea (see a theme here? I’m definitely obsessed with milk tea). My favorite is definitely the red bean one, surprise, surprise! First of all, can we just take a moment and enjoy how beautiful this dish looks? The mug comes is star shaped, which totally makes this drink girly and whimsical. The red bean comes separately in a dish and the serving is quite large. For $7, I think it’s pretty decent! Of course, the milk tea is sweet and refreshing. The red beans are served cold, paired with the hot milk tea, heaven!

Overall, I absolutely love this place! The price point is slightly higher, but for the quality as well as the nicely decorated environment, I would give it a 4.5 stars out of five. Would I visit this place again? Absolutely!

Makeup Tutorial: Holiday Clashing

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful time today.

Did Santa surprise you with anything on your wish list? I definitely got what I’ve always wanted – a huge double sided mirror with lights. Today, I have a very special holiday makeup tutorial for you all. The reason I said special is because I’ve always been against gold and silver clashing, however, I came across this makeup look on Weheartit and I fell in love with the look immediately.

I recreated it today and it’s really much simpler than you think, without further ado, here you go!

I’ve already done my face makeup using Make Up For Ever HD primer and foundation, Milani Luminoso baked blush and a dark mineral foundation from MAC for contour and bronzer.

Step 1 Blend a neutral light brown shadow into the crease area. This helps map out the shape and help make everything later on look more seamless. I used Urban Decay Naked.

Step 2 Blend a smoked bronze color into the outer V area. I used a combination of Dark Horse and Smog from Urban Decay.

Step 3 Apply a generous amount of NYX milk jumbo pencil as a base for the glitter.

Step4 Apply a gold glitter in the area shown. I used Annabelle glitter.

Step 5 Apply silver glitter in the inner corner. I used Marcelle glitter.

Step6 Apply black gel eyeliner in the shape you prefer. I’ve been really into super elongated cat eye lately.

Step7 Apply a thin coat of mascara and false lashes if you like. I also blended a combination of Smog and Dark horse on the lower lash line and the gold glitter in the inner lower corner.

Step8 Use a fluffy blending brush and blend away. Make sure there is no harsh lines between the glitters and shadows.

Voila! It’s really quite simple, isn’t it? I paired this look with a bold red lip from Shiseido. If you think this is too much, a beige nude lipstick would look lovely as well.

I really hoped you enjoy this gold and silver holiday smokey eye! Let me know if you ever try this out!
