Makeup Tutorial: Holiday Clashing

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful time today.

Did Santa surprise you with anything on your wish list? I definitely got what I’ve always wanted – a huge double sided mirror with lights. Today, I have a very special holiday makeup tutorial for you all. The reason I said special is because I’ve always been against gold and silver clashing, however, I came across this makeup look on Weheartit and I fell in love with the look immediately.

I recreated it today and it’s really much simpler than you think, without further ado, here you go!

I’ve already done my face makeup using Make Up For Ever HD primer and foundation, Milani Luminoso baked blush and a dark mineral foundation from MAC for contour and bronzer.

Step 1 Blend a neutral light brown shadow into the crease area. This helps map out the shape and help make everything later on look more seamless. I used Urban Decay Naked.

Step 2 Blend a smoked bronze color into the outer V area. I used a combination of Dark Horse and Smog from Urban Decay.

Step 3 Apply a generous amount of NYX milk jumbo pencil as a base for the glitter.

Step4 Apply a gold glitter in the area shown. I used Annabelle glitter.

Step 5 Apply silver glitter in the inner corner. I used Marcelle glitter.

Step6 Apply black gel eyeliner in the shape you prefer. I’ve been really into super elongated cat eye lately.

Step7 Apply a thin coat of mascara and false lashes if you like. I also blended a combination of Smog and Dark horse on the lower lash line and the gold glitter in the inner lower corner.

Step8 Use a fluffy blending brush and blend away. Make sure there is no harsh lines between the glitters and shadows.

Voila! It’s really quite simple, isn’t it? I paired this look with a bold red lip from Shiseido. If you think this is too much, a beige nude lipstick would look lovely as well.

I really hoped you enjoy this gold and silver holiday smokey eye! Let me know if you ever try this out!

A greeting to you all

Hi my lovelies, how are you all doing today? I know it’s been a long time since I last posted anything here on my blog, and I am extremely sorry about that. I had my first finals in university and I wasn’t very satisfied with how I did. I haven’t been doing anything much at all and it’s about time for me to pull myself together and do something during my break. I am not writing anything in particular today, just some rambling about my life and my plan for the break.

First of all, I want to share with you some of my purchases lately. I finally gave in and bought myself a Clarisonic Mia. I know they have come out with Mia 2, Aria etc. but a demo that I worked with once told me he would only buy the original Mia himself. I weighed my options and decided on the Mia. I’ve only used it once so far, the Sephora girl told me it’s better to start using it once every other day. I will definitely keep you guys posted once I get to try it out more.

I also got myself my first ever Crest teeth whitening strip kit. I’ve always wanted to whiten my teeth, it’s not that I hate my teeth color, but who doesn’t like whiter teeth, right? I got this set from Walmart based on a video by Melissa Merk on YouTube.  The entire kit is only $36 and it includes 14 strips of Advanced Vivid, a bottle of Glamorous White mouth wash, an Oral-B tooth brush and a 3D white toothpaste. This deal is way too good to resist. I’ve used 5 strips so far and I can definitely tell a difference. Again, I will do a review once I finish the entire box.

As I said earlier, I don’t have much in mind today so I want to share some food pictures with you all. I’m a total dessert addict and I had to treat myself something sweet after the insane finals period.

I’ve started to practice some more elaborate makeup on myself and I will be posting detailed photos on my Instagram, so make sure to follow me @lavenderfedora.

I also started to do more dance workouts lately and I’m absolutely obsessed with them. I’ve done some Batuka and Julianne Hough’s dance workout. They are so fun and energizing, a great way to stay fit and have fun at the same time!

That’s all I have to share with you guys today. Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate and happy holiday to you all! May you and your family have a wonderful time together!

Shiseido Warehouse Sale!

Hi lovelies!
I hope you are all having a fabulous day! I just want to make a quick update on what's going on with my life.
Back in August, I was fortunate enough to get a demo job from Shiseido, so far, the experience has been nothing but fun! Essentially, I go visit from store to store which I provide support and occasionally, I do makeovers for clients! That has to be my favorite part of my job, although I'm not professionally trained when it comes to makeup, I've watched enough tutorials on YouTube to learn how to do it properly. There's nothing more satisfying when the clients look into the mirror and are delighted about what they see. The happiness that shows on their lovely faces makes me realize how lucky I am to have such a wonderful job at this age.
Enough rambling about how much I love my job, the purpose of this post is to let you girls who live in the GTA area know that there will be a warehouse sale this weekend: Nov. 16 & 17. It's at 3030 Allstate Parkway in Markham.  I don't know if you guys know, but Shiseido also owns Nars, so there will be loads of amazing products there. This year, since I'm working for Shiseido, I got a ticket to the private sale which is happening today Nov. 15. I can't wait to share with you all what I'm going to get and hopefully, you guys can visit during the general sales and get something you like. I've been to a general sale before and HERE is my post. I highly recommend Shiseido's lipsticks, they're so creamy and pigmented. The price at the sale is $10 compared to regular $30!

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day!

Holy Grail: Essence Lip Liners Review

Hi love! Sorry for the absence for such a long time, it’s my first year in university and I just got all of my midterms done. It was definitely a stressful period of time and I am glad that I can get back to blogging! Today, I have a new obsession to share with you all lip junkies out there. I can’t believe something so affordable (a nice way of saying cheap) can be so incredibly amazing! Well, let me present Essence lip liners: they are creamy, long-lasting, come in a great selection of beautiful colors and best of all, they are 1.49 each! Without further ado, let me show you the essence lip liners that I have as well as the swatches!

Just a bit of background info on how I stumbled across those lip liners: Shoppers drug mart (one of the main drugstores here in Canada) started carrying Essence products earlier this year, or so I thought. I never paid too much attention to their products, simply because they are too cheap. I believe all of their products are below $5 if not $4, the packaging looks a bit like kids’ makeup, the ones that kids buy and smear around their adorable faces you know? Lovely but not something that I would put on my face unless for Halloween. However, one day, I was desperately in need of a red lip liner but didn’t want to pay $12 for a Revlon one. So I searched up Essence lip liner on makeupalley – one of my favorite places to look up makeup items reviews. Surprisingly, everyone has something positive to say about their lip liners and I decided to give it a go. Ever since then, I pretty much bought all of their lip liners and the obsession begins…

Sorry for the chapped lips, at this point, I've swatched so many liners my lips decided to quit :P

The first one that I got is this deep red color called Red Blush. I like to put it on before my red lipstick. It’s darker than my lipstick and shockingly, I found that by layering them, the red seems a lot more wearable. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel more confident rocking the red lip look. It helps my red lipstick to stay on longer and make my lip line look neater and sharper – a look that I personally prefer.

Well, after I discovered how amazing those lip liners are, I went back and got a few more. This one is a basic nude liner called In the Nude. It might not be the best nude color for my complexion but I like it nonetheless. I don’t tend to wear this on its own, again, I like to put it on before my nude lipstick to make it last longer. I found that by layering your lip liner before lipstick, your lipsticks adhere to your lips way better and sometimes, the mix of slightly different colors can create something beautiful, you never know!

The next I have is called Cute Pink – a perfect name for this perfect color. It’s like a Barbie doll pink, very bright and fun. I often just apply this all over my lips and wear it on its own. It adds a nice pop of color and I think it helps brighten up my complexion and makes me look more awake – always a bonus when you’ve been studying all night!

Lined my cupid's bow way too sharp, almost looks like something straight out of the Great Gatsby's

layered a red lipstick on top (the one I'm wearing in my d/p pic), love the color combination

The last one that I have is called Soft Berry – not a color that I am particularly fond of. I definitely wouldn’t call this color soft, it’s a really deep purple although I can definitely see it looks amazing on someone with an olive toned complexion or a darker skin tone. I will have to layer this before my other purple lipsticks and give it a few more try to decide whether I can work with it or not.
Overall I absolutely adore Essence lip liners! They have a few more brownish colors that I know would not work with my complexion. But I’m sure some of you out there will fall in love with them. I have recommended them to so many friends and they become obsessed as well, ooops! Have you ever tried Essence lip liners before? Please let me know if there are any other Essence products that I should definitely give it a go!

OOTD: Secret garden

Hi dolls, I hope you are all doing well! Surprisingly, the weather has been quite warm here in Canada which is definitely rare during this time of the year. I seized the opportunity and wore this somewhat more spring appropriate outfit.

Sorry for not being seasonal appropriate, I promise this will be the last one.

About this outfit, I absolutely adore this chiffon floral shirt. It’s super girly and the collars are adorable!

The navy skort dresses up the outfit and adds a touch of preppyness to it. As you probably know by now, I adore fedoras and wear them all year round (hence lavenderfedora). Those Tom’s crochet flats are a receny score and I love them. They’re so incredibly comfortable and cute at the same time.

I just got this rose gold Michael Kors watch recently and I love it to death! It's quite different from all the other ones I've seen and I think it looks a lot better on my tiny wrist than those chunky metal ones.

Interesting fact about this purse, since I went back to China this summer, my parents were digging up some old treasures in our house. They found this purse which my dad bought over 10 years ago in Russia. I think they were saving it for me and look at the quality of it, it still looks brand new.
I hope you enjoy this outfit and definitely let me know what you think of it. Until next time,

OOTD: Floral Business

Hi dolls, I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful fall weather outside. I know many of you might be unwilling to give up the pretty summer dresses yet, well, me either.

A great way to transition the summer dresses to fall is to style it with a tailored blazer. I love how the blazer really dresses up the look and transform the girl next-door floral dress into a more grown-up feminine style.

I am so in love with those wedges. They have a nautical feel to them and the curved sole really adds an interesting twist to your typical summer wedges. Plus, they are so comfortable and they make your legs look miles long.

What do you think of this outfit? Is there any other summer pieces that you love to incorporate into fall styles? Please share with me :)

OOTD: Cross and Denim

Hi beautiful, I have another style post for you all. I know the weather is getting chillier every day, and I apologize for putting up such a summery outfit. But I really don’t want to throw those photos away and this outfit sums up my style really nicely.

I absolutely adore cropped tops, there’s something about them that really appeal to me. Same with circle skirts, I love the fullness and structure of them. Twirling in circle skirts is so much fun :)

I pair this outfit with lots of silver and gunmetal accessories. Those shoes marry classic oxford style and trendy creeper with a beautiful metallic color. I got them from Topshop when it was on sale for only $20! Love them to pieces!

I bought most of the accessories from China while I was there this summer, but I’m sure you can find things like this from Forever 21. The choker necklace was from Ardene quite a while ago. I often find it hard to style but I love how the pendant falls on the crop top.

As for the makeup, I was experimenting with the cut-crease look, so if this is not your cup of tea, I apologize. Even I think it’s way too dramatic.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this outfit post. Please let me know what you think of crop tops. Are they chic or trashy? I personally love them in the summer time, of course!

September is my lucky month!

Hi dolls! I have some amazing news to share with you today. Well, let’s just say I’ve been incredibly lucky recently and I’ve won two prizes on YouTube. If you’ve been following me for a while, you must know that I am super into entering YouTube contests.

The first contest that I won is one hosted by Hayleyistcb. She is a stunning YouTube beauty guru that makes amazing videos. For someone her age, she has a very interesting job which she often updates on her channel. If you don’t know her, definitely check her out. Anyways, she hosted this video competition to celebrate her 5 year anniversary on YouTube. We were asked to make a video on how YouTube has changed our life. And she selected me as the winner! I just got her gifts last week, and let me just say, I adore every single present.

She is such a sweet heart, she sent me loads of post cards with cool beauty quotes on it as well. I am so happy with everything!

Also, another Canadian girl called sabbrinaxo promoted a newly opened Canadian online store called dame occasionnel. I won a dress from them. The dress looks really simple and it’s not something that I would normally pick out, but surprisingly, I love it very much!

It’s super casual but you can definitely dress it up as well. The quality is quite nice and the person who works for them id really kind. The delivery comes in 1 or 2 days, which I was very pleasantly surprised by the efficiency. Definitely check this website out if you are from Canada J
That’s a quick update for you all and I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

DIY & Upcycle: chevron coffee tin

Hi beautiful! Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I just started university this week and it’s been super busy already. Today, I have an easy DIY for you all.
This is a very simple way to glam up those empty coffee tins you have around home. Sometimes, you just don’t want to throw them away because you know they can be useful one day. There’re so many things you can do with empty containers like this one I’m using here. It can be a nice room decor or you can use it to hold your makeup brushes, fake flowers like I’m doing here etc. Without further ado, here’s the DIY tutorial.

I was originally planning to paint the chevron pattern right on top of the tin; however, I realize how difficult that would be. So instead, I drew the pattern on a piece of paper and wrap the paper around the tin.

I first measured the height of the container, and I cut off a piece of paper with the same height (or width). I made sure the paper is long enough to wrap around the container, and I started the sketching.
This is really self-explanatory so I’m sure you can all do this at home as well. It can be quite time consuming if you want the pattern to be precise, but I had a lot of time on my hand at that time, so I went ahead and made the pattern as neat as I can.

After that, I used acrylic paint which I mixed purple and white to create this pastel color and I glued it onto the container.

Voila! That’s the end result. I think it really adds a nice little touch to your home decoration and it’s a great way to upcycle those empty tins you have laying around in your house.

I hope you enjoyed this simple DIY. And let me know what you think of this. Don't forget to comment and follow my blog :)

Peak-a-boo Ombre to Posh Bob: my hair revolution

Well, if you see the title, I’m sure you’re all curious about what happened to my hair. And yes, I cut it! What?!
So basically, I went from hair down to my waist to this short bob cut. This post is dedicated to my recent hair revolution and I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on both my older hairstyle as well as the new one. So I decided to combine both hairstyles into one post and let you know how I got them done.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, I’m sure you have seen my older hairstyle. I like to call it peak-a-boo ombre. I know ombre has been a trend for what seems like forever, but I was definitely into the trend right from the beginning. My reasons were quite simple, first, well, I think it’s really pretty and unique (until every other person I see on the street has the hairstyle) and also, it’s so easy to maintain. Unlike regular highlights, the more your roots grow out, the more natural your hair looks, in my opinion. So last August, I persuaded my parents to let me dye my hair and I went straight to my hair dresser with a picture of Lily Aldridge’s hair. I thought, you know, she has dark brown to black hair and so do I, the hair stylist should be able to do it, right?
before ombre

Unfortunately, I was told that the style is too complex and she suggested to bleach my bottom layer so it somewhat looks like ombre and here you go.

To be quite honest with you, I was never that happy with the hairstyle. While numerous girls tell me my hair is amazing and what not, I just never loved my hair. But, time and effort and money have been spent, so I kept the hairstyle for exactly a year.
I don’t remember starting from when but I became obsessed with bob. I want to say it was Karlie Kloss who started the whole “lob” trend but I could be wrong. Anyways, I was convinced that short hair was the way to go. Trust me, no one around me supported the idea of cutting off all of my hair. As I said, many have been lusting over my hair since it was super long, straight and somewhat healthy. Though I never enjoyed my naturally straight hair, it had zero volume and sticked right to my scalp.
the only picture I could find of my natural hair

But the more I look at Victoria Beckham’s bob, Keira Knightly’s etc, the more I wanted to cut my hair. Starting from September 10th, I will be starting my first year university and I want to have a fresh new image. So After I came back from China, I again went to the same hair dresser I went to last August for my ombre. You might ask why would you go to the same hairdresser if you hated the last hairstyle, well I have to say she is very good with cutting and styling, it’s her husband that does the bleaching, needless to say, her husband definitely lacks the skill for it. Anyways, I just want to let you know that she did a fantastic job as always and I am so happy with my new hairstyle.

It cuts around my chin and a bit of the previously bleached hair still peaks through, somehow, it just all worked out. I think this hairstyle is very chic and frames my face nicely. I hope you like it as much as I do. Though I have to share a fun fact with you, the moment I showed my grandma my new hairstyle, she immediately told me she liked the long one better. Well, you can’t please everyone, can you?
People tell me that it definitely takes courage to cut off so much hair but to be honest, I am quite adventurous when it comes to hair style. So who knows, what will I do next August? I guess we’ll just wait and find out :P

ps. I haven't taken many selfies yet so the pictures here are quite boring sorry :(
